All Mixed Up

Good news friends…we’re pretty much finished up with our new record. The mixing is done and we’re just putting the finishing touches on the artwork right now.

Here are a few things that we think make it our best record yet (yeah, it’s only our second one).

  • We tracked the drums, bass, and guitars in one day.
  • Dan played drums, saxophone, keyboards, and sequenced some beats.
  • Dan’s wife, Jenny, played trombone on one of the songs.
  • Thomas from American Mars sang on one of the songs.
  • We recorded some backing vocals with a crew of family and friends in a Chicago apartment.
  • Dave Feeny engineered, mixed, mastered, and played pedal steel on it in between a trip to Europe with his band, Blanche, and releasing a new record with his other band, American Mars. Bravo!
  • The record’s initials are P.W.

Keep your ears clear and your eyes peeled. More details soon…

Tracking Done, Mix Next

Alright, quick update. Most of the basic tracking is done for the next record. We spent last Sunday getting the rest of the vocals finished up and added some fun things in there as well. Mixing starts in a couple of weeks, so hopefully we’ll have this thing wrapped up sometime in November. Stay tuned…

Last Minute

We jumped on a show tonight (Sept 14) at Mac’s Bar in Lansing, MI with Oh My God!, Relapse, and The Hat Madder at 9:00pm.

On Sunday we’re heading down to Tempermill to start working on vocals for the new record.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Small Brown Bike shows last weekend. It was an amazing time. Sorry if Mike’s voice sounded a little shot…singing 37 songs in two nights will do that to you.

Recording Our Second Record

danIn June we went down to Broadside Studios in Kalamazoo to start work on the basic tracks for our second record. It’s been almost two years since Expedition Songs hit the streets, so we’re definitely ready.

We recorded drums, bass and guitars pretty much live. Things went great and we somehow managed to track everything in about nine hours. Dan was a champion and only took one or two takes to get his drums tracks down. The rest of the time was spent cleaning up a few guitar and bass spots and then doubling all of the guitars (plus a few shredding solos).

We’ve been rocking the rough, instrumental mixes and are pretty excited about how it’s all sounding. The songs sound a bit more dynamic than Expedition Songs. I guess what we’re trying to say is that the rock is more ROCK and the quiet is more…

The next step is to head over to Tempermill to record the vocals in September. We’ll let you know as things start to come together.
